Cory Booker Announces Launch of “Justice Academy” Leadership Development Program for Volunteers

Eight-Week Program Will be Offered in Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, and New Jersey

Newark, NJ – Today, Cory 2020 is announcing the launch of Justice Academy, an eight-week  leadership development program for volunteers offered in the four early states of Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, Nevada, as well as in New Jersey.

“I’m running for president to reignite our sense of common purpose and to build a more fair and just nation for everyone,” said Cory Booker. “But I can’t do it alone, and that’s why I think it’s so important to empower people across the country to organize around the issues and causes central to our campaign.

“Living and serving in Newark for the past 20 years, I learned just how powerful members of the community can be -- and that’s why this sort of grassroots organizing is central to my campaign. With the Justice Academy, we’re building a bench of community leaders who will sharpen their skills to become even more advocates for justice in communities across the nation.”

Justice Academy participants will learn how to organize like-minded supporters around issues central to Cory Booker’s campaign -- criminal justice reform, environmental justice, reproductive justice, voting rights, wealth inequality, health care, gun violence prevention, and many more. Participants will be trained in the nuts and bolts of community organizing. They will recruit supporters and volunteers, build local teams, host events, and lead local outreach on a specific issue area of their choice.

Participants will be required to participate in an on-boarding training and a national study hall program, which includes regular webinars, suggested readings, and hard-skills practice.

Justice Academy participants will be provided a monthly reimbursement to cover costs associated with participation, such as outreach materials and supplies, public transit fees, gas allowances for related travel, and other regular expenses.
