RECAP: IOWA FOR KIRSTEN HOLDS CAMPUS DAY OF ACTION EVENTS ACROSS THE STATE

SEN. GILLIBRAND EARNS ENDORSEMENT OF CLAIRE CARSTENS, ISU STUDENT & FOUNDER OF YOUTH POLK COUNTY DEMS

As students started classes at colleges and universities across Iowa on Monday, Iowa For Kirsten organizers and supporters held organizing events at 14 schools across the state to register new voters, recruit volunteers and discuss Senator Gillibrand’s bold vision for America.

Events were held at Iowa Western Community College, Morningside College, Buena Vista University, University of Northern Iowa, Wartburg College, Iowa Central Community College, Iowa State University, Drake University, Simpson College, Cornell College, University of Iowa, Scott Community College, Loras College, and Muscatine Community College.

“Students and young people are making their voices heard in this election, and they are critical to our organizing efforts in Iowa,” said Lara Henderson, Iowa State Director for Senator Gillibrand. “Our organizers spent the day talking with students about the issues that are important to them and how they can get involved with our campaign. We are thrilled that young people are excited about Kirsten and her bold vision for America.”

Claire Carstens, founder and former chair of the Youth Polk County Dems and a student at Iowa State University, also announced her endorsement of Senator Gillibrand on Monday.

“Kirsten clearly has the heart that we so desperately need,” Claire Carstens wrote in Iowa Starting Line. “We need someone who connects on a deeper level with people. Someone who interacts and listens and then uses those interactions to shape their agenda and purpose in the government. Kirsten travels around with her black notebook and listens to all Americans from a group of young people like myself, the disability community, rural communities, or those impacted by severe flooding.”

Senator Gillibrand has met with young voters across the state and was recently endorsed by first-time caucus-goer Avery Fair, a 17-year old activist from Dubuque, who said: “As a seventeen year old, it was amazing to see how she values each one of us when some people may dismiss us due to our age. She listened intently to what we had to say and made our voices heard. I learned at that moment just how much our young voices matter.”
