Progressive Democrats of America Endorse Bernie Sanders for President

Senator Sanders Wins PDA’s Endorsement Poll in a Landslide

PDA has officially endorsed Senator Bernie Sanders for President in 2020, following his landslide victory in their endorsement poll of supporters across the country. In order to earn the endorsement, one candidate had to carry at least 60% of the total votes; a daunting prospect with thirteen candidates on the ballot.

Bernie Sanders won 66% of the votes cast during the week-long poll.

PDA Executive Director Alan Minsky said, “In 2013, the Progressive Democrats of America (PDA) helped launch the Bernie Sanders revolution with our Run Bernie Run campaign. Back then, PDA was the only national organization with the foresight to call upon the Vermont Senator to run for President. Now, like Bernie, PDA is committed to finishing what we started.”

Bernie Sanders won PDA’s endorsement with 66% of the votes cast. ‘Undecided or Other’ finished second with 10%. Elizabeth Warren finished third with 9%, followed by Kamala Harris (5%), Tulsi Gabbard (3%), and Jay Inslee (2%). The rest of the candidates received 1% or less.

“It’s a remarkable result,” said Minsky. “Then again, I shouldn’t be surprised. PDA is made up of people—from all across the U.S.A—with an acute sense of the deep problems, and the great promise, of this country. Like Bernie, they understand that we need a dramatic change in our politics.”

Minsky explained, “Bernie Sanders is unique among the candidates, not only for the power of his progressive vision and his genuine sincerity, but also for how he calls for a new participatory politics, something that PDA has stood for since our founding in 2004. We are thrilled that we will be working in support of Bernie and his campaign to win the political revolution that American democracy, American society, and the earth’s climate so clearly need.”
PDA is a grassroots political action committee, founded in 2004 to transform the Democratic Party and U.S. politics by electing progressives to federal office. PDA will raise money for the Sanders campaign, operate volunteer phone banks, organize house parties, do visibility actions, and otherwise support Sen. Sanders’s candidacy.

The PDA National Advisory Board includes outspoken progressive members of Congress: Representatives Barbara Lee, Keith Ellison, Raul Grijalva, and James McGovern; as well as progressive leaders such as Academy Award winning documentarian Michael Moore, Actress / Activist Mimi Kennedy, Rev. Dr. Rodney Sadler, Author Jim Hightower, and Radio Hosts / Authors Lila Garrett and Thom Hartmann. Esteemed activists Michael Lighty, Medea Benjamin, Steve Cobble, Kristin Cabral, Dr. Paul Song, M.D., Belén Sisa, and Professor Marjorie Cohn also serve on the PDA Advisory Board, which is chaired by Donna Smith.
